Writing creatively together in the time of the pandemic.
I’ve been running a face-to-face creative writing group (Shut Up & Write Thessaloniki) for several years where we meet and write together quietly. We often chat after we finish, but the focus of our meetings is getting some writing done. Due to the pandemic, I now host a virtual group.
What we do
We meet every weekday and write for an hour. The meeting starts at 7:30 CET. Meetings usually run just short of two and a half hours.
Make sure to bring your own project as everyone works on their own writing. You can work on any kind of creative writing: novels, short stories, poetry, stageplays, screenplays, creative non-fiction, etc. Writers of all languages, levels, and genres are welcome!
Though we talk about writing, and occasionally other topics as well, we don’t share our work or offer critique in this group.
We communicate in English during the meeting, but you can write in the language of your choice.
Technical setup
We use Zoom to meet. Make sure to install the plugin/app on your device (PC or Mac, Android, or iOS (iPhone/iPad)). You may test your system in advance of the meeting to make sure that everything is working correctly.
Join the meeting from a quiet space where you will not be disturbed by noise, phone calls, colleagues, etc. Use a headset, earbuds or microphone that doesn’t pick up noise from the room. If there’s many people in meeting, mute yourself when you’re not speaking. (We all mute ourselves when writing.)
Upcoming sessions
Contact me to register for an hour of focused writing and some friendly writerly chat.
